Reeves gouache paints, Seawhite aquarell block 350 g/m², 16,5 x 13 cm

This is a gouache painting of a very smart, strong and lovely woman – my mother. #femineart

The original photo was taken 1982 in my mothers birth city Davao City in the Philippines in front of the city hall. Two years before she moved to Germany.

The colour palette of this old picture and of course the fascination about the fact that your mother had a life before she became a mother 🙂 made me paint this photo.

A lot of credit for this time lapse goes to J.G.

Because the three step painting process worked so good for me I did it again.

So this was a lot of fun and also a little appreciation of my mother. ♥ Side effect I have a present in stock.

In this context I want to mention the touching book Mama Superstar by Melisa and Manik. This book portrayed different migrant mothers like Mama Hareg from Ethiopia or Mama Alma from Kazakhstan. The daughters tell the stories of their mothers. It’s about leaving their home countries and the culture clash especially with their own in Germany born daughters.

Beautiful stories combined with cute illustrations from Marta Pucci.
